Two people are trapped after a crane collapsed at a building site in Crewe, northern England. A third person has been rescued and airlifted from the scene. Two people have died after being trapped under a collapsed crane at a building site in Crewe, northern England.
Emergency services including two fire engines and the national police air support are on the scene, according to Cheshire police. The site has been closed off. Three others were injured, including the driver of the crane who was airlifted to Royal Stoke Hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. 
It is not yet clear where the people are trapped. A parent and child who were in a nearby house damaged by the falling crane were hospitalized as a precaution and will be relocated while an investigation into the incident unfolds.
One man, believed to be the crane driver, has been airlifted to hospital with unconfirmed injuries. The condition of the other two trapped victims remains unknown. Some five hours after the incident, emergency crews are still working to recover the trapped bodies of the two deceased. Their next of kin have been notified. 
Meanwhile, a parent and child, who were in a nearby house damaged by the falling crane, were hospitalized as a precaution. “This is a truly tragic incident, and our deepest condolences go out to the families affected at this extremely difficult time,” said Chief Superintendent Matt Welsted.

Police are asking the public to avoid the area, and say the Health and Safety Executive has been informed. The site remains closed off. It is not yet clear what led to the crane’s collapse.
“This is a multi-agency operation and we are working closely with the Health and Safety Executive, Local Authority, and Building Control to establish the full circumstances of the incident,” added Welsted.
