A second inmate who absconded from open prison in Tayside has been traced, it has been confirmed.

Simon Lister, 28, who escaped from Noranside prison in Angus, is back in jail after he was found on Saturday.

The first inmate returned to prison was John Cartledge, 41, who handed himself in on Friday after failing to return to Castle Huntly.

However, a search is continuing for 39-year-old Dennis Smyth, who was also based at Castle Huntly.

The trio had all been on home leave when they failed to return to their open prisons last Wednesday.

Cartledge, who is serving eight years for a violent assault, and who had absconded from the jail in the past, handed himself in to police.

He has had an extra six months added to his sentence.

Lothian and Borders Police said that Lister, who is from Penicuik, was traced to Penicuik.
