The University of Virginia student was arrested in North Korea in January 2016, near the end of a five-day trip, on charges that he stole a propaganda poster from a staff-only level of the Pyongyang hotel where he stayed. Warmbier was sentenced to 15 years of hard labor, but was released and medically evacuated 17 months later.
