Former NBC Tonight show sidekick Ed McMahon is suing a Los Angeles hospital, claiming its doctors discharged him with a broken neck.

The star, best known for work with US talk show host Johnny Carson, claims the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center discharged him without taking an X-ray.

Hospital spokeswoman Simi Singer declined to comment because the hospital had not received the lawsuit.

McMahon, 85, also claims that two spine operations were not done properly.

The entertainer said he has suffered months of discomfort and pain.

McMahon's lawsuit states that when he visited the hospital in 2007 he told a doctor he felt like a "bobble-head" doll because of his spine.

McMahon alleges that the problem was not diagnosed.

The star is most famous for his 30 years of introducing Carson with his trademark "Heeeeeere's Johnny."

In the 80s and 90s McMahon hosted the popular TV talent show Star Search.

In recent months he has sought to save his multimillion dollar Beverly Hills home from foreclosure.
