In Citizen Clem, Bew examines the intellectual foundations and core beliefs of Attlee, who served as prime minister of the Labour government that took office in the aftermath of the second world war. He oversaw socio-economic reforms that shaped the modern welfare state, including the introduction of the NHS. And all these books are books that readers will return to year after year,” she said.
