A 12-week-old puppy which was being trained to become a police dog has been stolen from a back garden.

West Midlands Police said black German Shepherd Xamm was last seen at about 1900 BST on Wednesday at the house in Stourbridge.

She was being looked after by one of the force's puppy walkers and was wearing a collar with a West Midlands Police tag on it.

Police said they were concerned Xamm had not finished her course of jabs.

Insp Stuart Manley, head of the force dog unit, said: "All of us at the dog unit, and the family who were looking after Xamm, are upset by this incident.

"She is a lovely puppy who has just come into our training programme.

"We are primarily concerned about having the dog returned as she needs scheduled veterinary treatment, and appeal to anyone who knows of her whereabouts to get in contact."

He added that black German Shepherds were rare so hoped she would be easy to spot.
