Police hunt for on-run prisoners Review call after inmates abscond

Police are hunting for three men who have gone on the run from open prisons in Tayside. Calls have been made to review home leave for prisoners, after three inmates went on the run from open jails in Tayside and Angus.
John Cartledge, who is serving an eight-year jail sentence for assault, and convicted housebreaker Dennis Smyth have been missing since Wednesday. John Cartledge and Dennis Smyth have been missing since Wednesday after failing to return to Castle Huntly open prison, near Dundee.
Both failed to return to Castle Huntly, near Dundee, after being granted a period of home leave. The third man, Simon Lister, who had also been granted home leave, failed to return to Noranside prison.
