The Times and the Daily Mail lead on a warning by Centrica, the owner of British Gas, that customers face a new round of price increases.

Households are warned to expect bills to jump from £600 to more than a £1,000 a year if oil prices remain high.

The Mail says Centrica blames the rises on the fact that the price of gas is tied to oil.

The Times notes you could get one week's gas or electricity for £25 - or buy a jumper and turn the heat off.

Schools chaos

The Independent has some multiple choice questions for readers on the problems over the Sats test results.

One asks them to imagine they were a large company, given a £165m contract, which fails to deliver test results on time to more than one million children.

Should it a) forfeit the rest of the contract, b) pay financial penalties or c) behave as if nothing had happened?

The Daily Telegraph says any attempt to dismiss the firm could be complicated by moves to seek compensation by the firm.

Sea rescue

The Sun and the Daily Mirror show the amazing rescue of a shark which had got a giant fishing hook stuck in its throat.

The 10ft grey nurse shark got into distress of the coast of New South Wales in Australia.

The Sun reports how the shark was saved from death by a daring marine scientist who got the hook free, using a tube to protect his arm from the animal's jaws.

The Mirror says the shark's predicament sparked a rescue mission by scientists to save it from a slow agonising death.

Sporting images

Three of the broadsheets go for a sporting theme for their main front-page picture.

The Times shows Scottish golfer Colin Montgomerie sheltering in his waterproof from the storms at the Open.

The Independent pictures cricketer Andrew Flintoff in boxing gloves in training ahead of his England return.

The Guardian has Sven-Goran Eriksson lookalike Derek Williams fooling the people of Mexico, where the real thing is now national football manager.
