A 19-year-old man has been charged under the Terrorism Act with two counts of possessing information likely to be useful to a terrorist. Akber Butt, from Southall, west London, is also accused of two other terrorism charges, said Scotland Yard. He is due to appear before City of Westminster magistrates on Friday. Four other men are accused of having information likely to be of use in terrorism as part of the same inquiry and are due to stand trial in April. Usman Malik, 20, Awaab Iqbal, 19, both from Bradford, Aitzaz Zafar, 19, from Rochdale, and Irfan Raja, 18, from Ilford, Essex, were charged in March. Mr Butt was arrested and charged with possessing a record of information likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism after attending a central London police station on Thursday. He is also accused of two counts of possessing an article which could be used for the commission, preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism. Mr Malik, Mr Iqbal and Mr Zafar were charged under Section 58 of the Act and appeared before Bow Street magistrates in March accused of holding information likely to be useful to a terrorist. Mr Raja, who appeared alongside them, was accused of making a record of information likely to be useful to a terrorist. The charge against him relates to information he downloaded on a computer. The investigation is separate from the inquiries into the 7 July London bombings, said Scotland Yard. |
