Scots make up nearly a quarter of the top 100 wealthiest entrepreneurs on the Vocational Rich List.

Almost 90% of the Scots on the list are self-made millionaires - and over half of them have set up businesses near where they grew up.

Many of the Scots are household names, such as Sir Alex Ferguson, Gordon Ramsay and Billy Connolly.

But Scotland's richest entrepreneur is Jim McColl who owns Clyde Blowers, an engineering and chimney-sweeping firm.

Born in Lanarkshire, Mr McColl's company, has earned him about £435m.

The average age of the Scots on the list is 59 years old.

Gordon Ramsay is the youngest at 40, joining only three other Scots who have made their fortune before reaching their half-century.

The Vocational Rich List is organised by the training organisation City and Guilds. It includes only those who have started their careers by taking on-the-job qualifications.
