The Daily Telegraph reports on tensions between Britain and Russia over the death of the former Russian agent, Alexander Litvinenko.

The paper mentions the cabinet minister Peter Hain's comments about the "murky murders" clouding the regime of the Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Times says criminal profilers in London have drawn up a computer database of 100 people.

They are believed to be likely to commit murders and rapes in future.

The Independent has a story about former UN weapons inspector, Dr Hans Blix, over Britain's replacement for the Trident nuclear weapons system.

Dr Blix says this decision makes it more difficult to stop Iran acquiring a nuclear bomb.

Creationist theory

The Guardian says dozens of schools are using teaching materials which promote the creationist alternative to the Darwinian theory of evolution.

It says the government said the packs should not be used in science lessons.

There is confusion about whether Pope Benedict will conduct his forthcoming visit to Turkey wearing a bullet-proof vest.

The Times says the "Popemobile" will be ditched for an armour-plated car.

But the Daily Express quotes a Vatican source who says the Pope dismissed the suggestion of a bullet-proof vest.

Writer's response

The Guardian has a response from novelist Ian McEwan to claims he plagiarised parts of his novel Atonement from writer Lucilla Andrews.

The Sun covers the story of sailors freezing at a naval base in Hampshire, where temperatures have fallen to five degrees Celsius.

It says commanders have turned off the central heating at HMS Collingwood to save £3,000 a day.

The Daily Mail reports that British scientists are developing a male contraceptive pill which works in a single dose.
