Man in court over student murders

A man charged with the murders of two French students in south-east London has appeared in court.

Daniel Sonnex, 23, from Peckham, south-east London, has been charged with the murders of Gabriel Ferez and Laurent Bonomo, both 23.

Their bodies were found stabbed and burnt in a New Cross bedsit on 29 June.

Mr Sonnex, who appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court, has been remanded in custody until 20 October when he is due to appear at the Old Bailey.

Nigel Farmer, 33, of no fixed abode, has also been charged with the murders and arson.

Both Mr Sonnex and Mr Farmer have also been charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Mr Farmer, who appeared in court last week, was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on 16 October.

A 35-year-old man and a woman, aged 25, were arrested and have been released on bail.
