Nice Matin said Pitt was present at the birth. Nice's mayor, Christian Estrosi, visited the hospital on Sunday to deliver the twins' birth certificates - robbing the ever-present paparazzi of a shot of Pitt arriving at City Hall to register the babies.
"It's a happy day for Mrs Angelina Jolie and all the citizens of Nice," said Mr Estrosi.

Security at the hospital Lenval has been intense to prevent the paparazzi from taking pictures of the family. Local newspaper Nice Matin, which first broke news of the birth, reported on Sunday that Pitt and Jolie had sold the rights for the first photo of their newly enlarged family to an unnamed US magazine.
The hospital had earlier had to deny that pictures which appeared in magazines were genuine. The fee, rumoured to be several million dollars, will be donated to charity, it added.
Spokeswoman Nadine Bauer said they were "posed fakes". Jolie is expected to stay in the Lenval hospital for a few more days to rest.
