Heavy rain fears for the South

A heavy rain warning has been issued for central and southern England by the Met Office.

Heavy showers were forecast across Dorset, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire, Bath, Bristol, Somerset and Gloucestershire.

Rainfall of more than 15mm (0.6in) was expected to fall in three hours on Friday afternoon. Some places could see 25mm (1in), the Met Office warned.

The Environment Agency currently has five flood watches in place for the South West of England.

The Met Office advised people to take care and refer to the Environment Agency's website for flood updates.

The bad weather was expected to lift later on Friday with dry conditions moving in overnight to leave a bright start to Saturday.

Heavy rainfall fell in the UK on Wednesday and Thursday with 50mm (2in) in some parts of the South West.
