Some votes are being counted in local and mayoral elections in England, Wales and Scotland, five weeks before the UK's general election. The Conservatives have gained control of Warwickshire County Council as votes are counted in local and mayoral elections across Britain.
A total of 4,851 council seats are up for grabs in 88 councils - all of those in Scotland and Wales and 34 in England, including 27 counties. A total of 4,851 council seats are up for grabs in 88 councils, all of those in Scotland and Wales and 34 in England five weeks before the general election.
Six new "metro mayors" will be elected in areas including the West Midlands and Greater Manchester. Counting has begun in some councils in Wales and England and in the West of England "metro mayor" election.
Much counting will be done on Friday but some early results are coming in. The Tories have won 29 out of 46 seats so far in Warwickshire.
Labour have lost two seats to independents in Wrexham while the Conservatives have gained a seat from them in Warwickshire - although ward boundaries have been redrawn since 2013. The council had previously been under no overall control.
Results will be scanned closely for signs of how the major parties will fare at the general election on 8 June. Many authorities, including all those in Scotland, will not begin counting until Friday morning.
Professor John Curtice has said that, on early declarations in England, there had been a substantial swing from Labour to the Conservatives while the UKIP vote appeared to be collapsing heavily and the Lib Dem performance was "very patchy".
In Wales, a Labour source has told the BBC of fears his party could lose control of Merthyr council while another has said the picture at Blaenau Gwent council is "very challenging".
Six new "metro mayors" will be elected in areas including the West Midlands and Greater Manchester although only one, the West of England, is counting overnight.
