The blaze at the Magpie Cafe on Pier Street is thought to have broken out in the top floor men's toilets on Sunday evening. The first blaze at the Magpie Cafe on Pier Street took six hours to put out after flames engulfed the roof on Saturday night.
North Yorkshire Fire Service said eight fire engines, with crews from Whitby, Scarborough and Middlesbrough, fought the fire for six hours. A second fire broke out at about 15:30 BST but has since been brought under control.
It spread to the roof space, but was extinguished without anyone being hurt. The first is thought to have broken out in the top floor men's toilets. It is not yet clear what caused the second.
The restaurant is expected to close for several weeks but the takeaway next door is expected to reopen on Tuesday. No-one was hurt in either incident and the restaurant is expected to close for several weeks.
