Version 0 of 1.

A woman hoping to have her baby at a birthing centre had to rapidly change her plans when her son began to arrive in the back of her car at a roundabout.

Ian Judge was driving his wife Keeli from their home in West Sussex towards Crowborough when he suddenly realised baby Samuel was on the way.

He stopped his car on the busy roundabout at Cuckfield and called 999.

Emergency call operator Laraine Domm said Mr Judge remained "cool, calm and collected" while delivering his son.

'Took control'

His wife recalled how just minutes earlier a "look of panic" flashed across his face when he realised that he could see the baby's head.

"He can't actually stand the sight of blood either, but they talked him through it and he was just so calm, he just took control."

During the birth, Ms Domm told Mr Judge how to hold the baby.

"Remember the baby will be slippery, so don't drop it," she warned.

Speaking a week after the birth of Samuel, she said Mr Judge had done "incredibly well".

"He listened to everything I said to him and... was telling me exactly what was going on in the car."
