A spokesman for the Welsh Assembly Government described it as "disappointing news".
He said assembly government officials were arranging an urgent meeting with the company's management to discuss the circumstances facing the two plants at Fforest Farm on the outskirts of Cardiff and Rogerstone.
"They will explore every possibility of assembly government support for the plants and their employees," he added.
