The stretch of motorway between the two junctions was closed in both directions - with queues backing up more than 10 miles on either side. The road was closed in both directions leaving queues backing up more than 10 miles on either side.
The bridge has been inspected and the southbound carriageway reopened. The southbound lanes and two northbound lanes were re-opened a few hours later but the other lane was to remain shut until 0600 BST.
