Mrs Richardson's daughter, Beverley Sains, also from Bishop Auckland, paid tribute to her mother.
She said: "She was a lovely person, bubbly, friendly, caring to everyone, just so full of life. We are at a complete loss as to why this should have happened."
Mrs Richardson spent her time mainly between a home in Spain and her Durham home and liked to take her grandchildren Richard, 22, and Natalie, 10, on holiday.
Mrs Sains added: "She loved the warm weather because it helped her arthritis. A couple of years ago she struck up a friendship with two women and, as a group, they began visiting Tunisia.
"She just wanted to enjoy life to the full and enjoy her family. The news of her death has come as a dreadful shock."
