Two people have been charged in connection with an incident in Edinburgh in which a baby was believed to be suffering the effects of heroin. A man and a woman have been charged over an incident in which a one-year-old girl was feared to have swallowed heroin, police have said.
The 25-year-old man and 24-year-old woman have subsequently been released to appear at court at a later date. The 25-year-old man and 24-year-old woman, from Edinburgh, are accused of endangering the baby's health.
The baby was taken to hospital a week ago after emergency services found her unconscious at a home in the city's Wester Hailes area. It followed an incident at a home in the Wester Hailes area of Edinburgh a week ago when paramedics were called after she fell unconscious.
The child remains in hospital but is now in a stable condition, police said.
Toxicology tests
Medics managed to revive her after the incident last Friday and took her to Edinburgh's Royal Hospital for Sick Children.
Lothian and Borders Police launched an investigation after the incident and were understood to be awaiting the results of a series of toxicology tests on the youngster.
A spokesman for the force on Friday said: "Following the incident where a one-year-old child was hospitalised in Edinburgh last week, two people have been arrested and charged in connection with the matter.
"The 25-year-old man and 24-year-old woman were subsequently released to appear at court at a later date."
