Rape inquiry man held in Cornwall

David Newton, 53, was held in Hayle on Tuesday afternoon and is being taken back to a police station in Leeds. Officers from Devon and Cornwall Police have been helping Yorkshire colleagues search for Mr Newton since the weekend. He is wanted for questioning about a sex attack on a 52-year-old woman on Ilkley Moor in June and an attack on a 16-year-old girl in 1997 in Halton. Mr Newton, from Knottingley, was spotted in St Ives on Sunday after an appeal for information on BBC Radio Cornwall. |
