Man slips and gets impaled on railings in Derby

A man has been left with "life-changing injuries" after his forearm became impaled on railings, police said.

The 19-year-old is believed to have been trying to take a shortcut in the early hours of Sunday when he slipped and fell.

It happened next to the Crown Inn in Curzon Street, Derby, where emergency services were called to at 02:19 GMT.

The man was cut free by firefighters, given first aid and taken to hospital by ambulance.
