Next of kin have been informed. A total of 109 British personnel have died in Afghanistan since 2001. A defence spokesman said the soldier was from 13 Air Assault Support Regiment Royal Logistic Corps.
Two other soldiers were injured in the same incident on Friday night but their injuries are not life threatening.
