A jewelled cutlery set given to a Yorkshire hotelier by the last Tsarina of Russia is expected to fetch £10,000 when it is auctioned later. A jewelled cutlery set given to a Yorkshire woman by the last Empress of Russia has been sold at auction for £20,000.
Princess Alix of Hesse, as she was then known, had stayed at Cathcart House, Harrogate, during a visit to take the spa waters in 1894. The lot also included letters and other correspondence from the Russian royal family and has been bought by Harrogate's Royal Pump Room Museum.
The gift was given to the children of a Harrogate hotel owner by Tsarina Alexandra.
