The hospital has been forced to close one of its wards to try to contain the outbreak. Another patient is infected with MRSA, while eight were identified as carrying the disease. Two others have been discharged. The Western Trust said MRSA was not the main cause of death in the case of the patient who died. "I'm sure the trust is taking every precaution now to contain this infection," said SDLP assembly member Tommy Gallagher. "Nevertheless, it was confirmed on June 16 and 10 days later bringing this to the attention of the public is, in my view, not good enough. "I think if we're going to get to grips with hospital infections, one of the things we must do is have an early alert." |
