An Alloa woman who became her school dux at Alva Academy in Clackmannanshire 65 years ago has finally been awarded her medal.

Ann Noble, 82, did not get the coveted award back in 1943 because metal was needed for munitions during the war.

Mrs Noble, known then as Ann Johnstone, was just 17 when she was named as the most distinguished pupil after excelling at maths and science.

Instead of a medal she was given a £5 note and told to buy "something nice".

After realising that she had never received her medal even after World War II ended, staff at Alva Academy decided to set the record straight.

Mrs Noble was invited to the school and told she was attending a ceremony to see her grandson Jake get an award.

During the ceremony she herself was presented with her medal by the TV personality Aggie Mackenzie.

Mrs Noble said she was proud of the medal, "even if it was 65 years late" and added she would "find somewhere nice in her house to display it".
