(about 2 hours later)
Family and friends have attended the funeral of a man who gassed to death his children on Father's Day. The funeral of two children who were gassed to death by their father has taken place.
The body of Brian Philcox, 52, was taken into St Edward's RC Church in Runcorn surrounded by floral tributes. The bodies of seven-year-old Amy and Owen, three, were found next to their father's body in his car near Llanrwst in north Wales on Father's Day.
The karate expert was found dead in his Land Rover next to daughter Amy, aged seven, and three-year-old son Owen, near Llanrwst in north Wales. The vicar at the service at All Saints Church in Daresbury said "none could understand or explain" what drove Brian Philcox, 52, to do what he did.
His children will be laid to rest in a separate service at All Saints Church, Daresbury, later on Thursday. Their tiny coffins were adorned with floral tributes and teddies.
Mr Philcox had gassed them with a hose from his exhaust pipe in the beauty spot in Snowdon after a split with their mother Evelyn Philcox, 37, 18 months earlier. Their father was laid to rest in a separate ceremony in St Edward's RC Church in Runcorn on Thursday morning in front of his family and friends.

It's a tragedy, plain and simple and best left at that. Speculation is pointless Reverend Canon David Felix
But addressing the 250 mourners Reverend Canon David Felix said there was still no real reasoning behind his actions.
"None of us here can understand or explain what drove Amy and Owen's father to do what he did.
"I can offer you no answer to the question 'why?', a question which must be in the minds of us all here.

Before they were carried into church, their mother Evelyn Philcox, 37, was comforted by family and friends and during the service many stood crying arm in arm.
