A passenger train has derailed on the way from Leuven to Brussels in Belgium, killing at least one person and leaving up to 19 people injured, Leuven's mayor is cited as saying in local media. | |
The Mayor of Leuven Louis Tobback confirmed to the DeRedactie news agency that one person has died. | |
“The victim who died, was not on the train," said Tobback when speaking to local media, as reported by VTM. | |
It is also reported that there were between 50 and 60 passengers on the train. At least one carriage overturned as the train was exiting the Leuven station at approximately 13:20 local time. | |
Traffic in the vicinity of Leuven has been disrupted due to the derailment, according to a press release by Belgian Rail. | |
