A Kent dock worker is being treated for serious injuries after a tonne of potatoes fell on him.

The alarm was raised at 0930 BST after the 65-year-old man became trapped in the cargo hold of a ship at Sheerness docks as the cargo was being unloaded.

Dock workers used a crane to help free the man as the emergency services were called to the scene.

He was flown by air ambulance to Kings College Hospital, in south London, with pelvis and leg injuries.

The Health and Safety Executive is investigating the incident.
