Version 0 of 1.

The mother of a Nottinghamshire soldier has travelled to London to accept one of the highest military honours for gallantry on behalf of her dead son.

Craig Brelsford, 25, was posthumously awarded the Military Cross for trying to save the life of Pte Johan Botha while serving in Afghanistan.

Susan Brelsford, of Chilwell, collected the Military Cross at a reception at Buckingham Palace.

She was the only one who received an award on behalf of a dead person.

Both Sgt Brelsford, 25, and Pte Botha died while under fire from the Taliban in Helmand province, Afghanistan, last September. He went back into the danger zone three times.

He was just a few days away from his 26th birthday when he died.
