Terror charge student given bail

A student accused of not telling police of an alleged suicide-bomb plot has been released on conditional bail.

Hashi Ahmed Omer, 18, a Somalian from Bristol, is charged with not disclosing information about the alleged plot of 19-year-old Andrew Ibrahim.

The bail conditions include a tag to enforce an overnight curfew, and £100 sureties from his family.

Mr Omer is due to reappear at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court in central London on 5 August.

'Painstakingly scrutinised'

Mr Omer, of Easton in Bristol, was arrested on 16 June by Avon and Somerset Police counter-terrorism officers and his home searched as part of their investigation into Mr Ibrahim.

Avon and Somerset Police said officers had been "painstakingly scrutinising" thousands of days worth of CCTV footage secured since Mr Ibrahim's arrest, as well as examining more than 2,000 exhibits and more than 2,500 documents.

Mr Ibrahim, from Westbury-on-Trym, has been remanded in custody to await trial.

Mr Ibrahim is accused of being in possession of two home-made vests, ball bearings, nails and screws.

He is also charged with making or having an explosive - hexamethylene triperoxide diamine - with intent.

His trial is expected to begin in January next year.
