ITV leads FTSE 100 higher after upgrade FTSE 100 higher as financial stocks rise

The UK stock market opened higher, with ITV shares leading the way after they were boosted by a broker upgrade. Financial stocks helped to pull the UK stock market higher, while ITV was boosted by a broker upgrade.
ITV shares rose 1.5% after Investec lifted its rating on the broadcaster to "buy" from "hold". By midday, the benchmark FTSE 100 share index was 37.05 points higher at 7,177.80.
On a quiet morning for company news, the benchmark FTSE 100 share index rose 13.76 points to 7,154.51. Barclays was the top riser on the index, up 3%, while insurer Prudential rose 2.5%.
Mining stocks were trading lower as metal prices fell. Anglo American, Glencore and Rio Tinto were all down by more than 3%. Shares in ITV increased by 2.3% after analysts at Investec lifted their rating on the broadcaster to "buy" from "hold".
On the currency markets, the pound was unchanged against the dollar at $1.2528, and up 0.1% against the euro at 1.1659 euros. Mining stocks were trading lower as metal prices fell. Glencore shares dropped 3.6% while Rio Tinto fell 2.9%.
