A "suspicious incident" involving a car parked outside a police station has sparked a bomb alert. Bomb squad officers have carried out a controlled explosion on a "suspicious" car parked outside a police station.
A bomb squad has been called to Workington police station, in Cumbria, to carry out a controlled explosion on the vehicle. An alert was declared at 03:30 GMT after concerns were raised over the unattended Vauxhall Corsa at Workington police station, Cumbria.
No details have yet been released about the vehicle, but a Cumbria Police spokesman said there was no immediate threat to the public. Police said a subsequent search of the car found nothing untoward.
People have been warned to avoid the area around the building in Hall Brow. Roads around the building, in Hall Brow, were sealed off while police dealt with the incident but have since reopened.
A police spokesman said the A596 outside the station was closed.
