The creature has been identified as a Risso's dolphin, which is rarely seen in shallow waters.

The exact species of the dolphin has not yet been confirmed, although it may not be the more common bottle-nosed dolphin. Little is known about Risso's dolphins which can be up to 12ft long (3.6m).
Northern bottle-nosed dolphins are only found in the north Atlantic, where they prefer water deeper than 1,000m. They have stocky heads without a beak, are light grey to white with a white chin and extensive scarring are often seen surfacing slowly.
Small numbers live around the Northern and Western Isles of Scotland and the west of Ireland. A spokesman for Clyde Coastguard said the creature should definitely not be so far up the river from the sea.
