The mammal has been spotted swimming in the ClydeEnlarge Image Doreen Graham, of the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, said: "The British Divers Marine Life Rescue service was alerted and are sending a medical team to monitor the situation.
"They have concerns about the animals skin suffering in fresh water as it's so far away from its normal habitat.
"The dolphin has disappeared for the moment. Hopes are that it has started to swim back out to sea."
The exact species of the dolphin has not yet been confirmed, although it may not be the more common bottle-nosed dolphin.
