Two knife-wielding masked men have stolen a "significant" amount of money from a post office in Flintshire.

North Wales Police said the raiders carried out the robbery at Northop Hall just before 1245 BST on Friday.

An assistant was threatened but not injured before the raiders got away in a stolen white Bedford van, later found abandoned in Holywell Road, Ewloe.

Police say they have an open mind on whether this raid is linked to an attempted robbery at New Brighton.

The post office is on the main road in Northop, and the robbers were wearing hooded tops and had scarves on their faces.

The stolen van has been taken to St Asaph for police to carry out forensic examinations.

Police made house-to-house inquiries and the police helicopter was involved in the search.

Det Insp Mark Hughes urged witness to contact police immediately.

"It is possible that passers-by may have seen the white Bedford van or may have seen the two men acting suspiciously in the area before the robbery," he said.

Witnesses can contact 0845 6071002 (English language line), 0845 6071001 (Welsh language line) or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
