A witness in the Kriss Donald murder trial has been jailed for six months for contempt of court.

David Beaton, 21, from Drumchapel, Glasgow, left the witness box and returned to the court an hour later.

He claimed he fled from the court because he was afraid of Kriss's murderers Imran Shahid, Zeeshan Shahid and Faisal Mushtaq.

Judge Lord Uist told him he was guilty of "a most blatant and serious contempt of court".

Last month, the Shahid brothers and Mushtaq were convicted of the racially aggravated abduction and murder of 15-year-old Kriss, after a six-week trial.

They snatched him from a street in Pollokshields, Glasgow, in March 2004, bundled him into a silver Mercedes and later stabbed him to death and set him on fire.
