The son of a former chief minister of India's north-eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh has been kidnapped by unidentified gunmen, officials said. Getam Apang, son of former chief minister Gegong Apang, was kidnapped from the state capital, Itanagar, early on Thursday. The police said Mr Apang's car was recovered on the outskirts of Itanagar. They suspect the abductors could be political rivals of Gegong Apang or suspected militants. A senior police official said that militants from neighbouring Assam state may have kidnapped Mr Apang for ransom. There are no local militant groups in Arunachal Pradesh. |
