A derelict farm in County Tyrone has been cordoned off by police after a man and his wife were robbed in their home in the Newtownstewart area. A search operation for an armed man who robbed a couple at their home in County Tyrone has been widened.
A man armed with a knife seized a shotgun and stole a car after breaking into the house on the Plumbridge Road just after 2200 GMT on Tuesday. The man stole a shotgun and car from the couple after breaking into their house in the Newtownstewart area just after 2200 GMT on Tuesday.
The robber also assaulted the man and threatened his wife. Police searched a derelict farm close to the house on the Plumbridge Road after the stolen car was abandoned there, however, nothing was found.
The stolen car was later found at the derelict farm, which is situated a short distance from the house. A PSNI spokesperson said a helicopter was now being used to look for the man.
Police have warned the public not to approach the man. The robber, who was armed with a knife, assaulted the man and threatened his wife during the robbery.
