He was speaking after unveiling the foundation stone for a new school campus in east Belfast. Education Minister Caitríona Ruane said she was confident of a resolution and looked forward to hearing his ideas.
Meanwhile, Education Minister Caitriona Ruane has written to all grammar schools saying she is disappointed one group is to go ahead with common entrance exams to replace the 11-plus. "I will be bringing proposals to the executive table for further discussion," she said.
She warned of legal difficulties and suggested the schools ask the Association for Quality Education for a copy of the legal advice it's been given. "The last discussion wasn't very useful, let's hope the next one is a better one. I am available for discussion at any time in relation to my proposals."
