A murder inquiry has been launched after a severely injured man was carried into the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport died. A murder inquiry has been launched after a fatally injured man was carried in and left at the A&E deparment of the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport.
The man, thought to be of south east Asian origin, was carried into the emergency unit on Monday by two men of similar origin who then left. Police are eager to trace two men - thought to be of south east Asian origin - who were seen helping the dead man into hospital.
Surgeons operated on him but were unable to save the man. The injured man, who later died, was aged between 25-35 but police have been unable to identity on him.

Officers said he was brought into the hospital at about 1400GMT on Monday with serious head injuries. Detective Superintendent Geoff Ronayne said the injured man was brought into the hospital at about 1400GMT on Monday. He underwent surgery but died at 2230 GMT.
He was carried unconscious into the accident and emergency department by two other men. "The victim had serious injuries and we don't know how he came by these injuries," he said, adding that some of them appeared to have been inflicted deliberately.
However, the two men then left the hospital on foot and headed towards Newport city centre. "The two men had a conversation with a staff member in the car park where they asked where they could take their friend.
Surgeons operated on the man at about 2230 GMT but he died. "There is no indication he was shot or stabbed but he had some very serious injuries which resulted in his death. The two men were clearly intent on getting him as quick as possible into the hospital and as getting out as quick as possible."
Detectives are trying to discover the circumstances leading up to the man being taken to the hospital. Officers said that they were examinnig missing person reports and working with community leaders to try and get people who may usually be unwilling to go to the police to come forward with any information.

It is not known if a vehicle was used because the two men walked into the hospital grounds and left on foot. "The ethnic background of the men is unknown, however, we believe it to be South East Asian - possibly Thai, Malaysian, Cambodian, Vietnamese, Filipino, or Indonesian," Mr Ronayne added.
An appeal has been issued to anyone who saw the two men in the hospital area at around 1400GMT.
None of the three has been identified by police.
Detective Superintendent Geoff Ronayne said: "The ethnic background of the men is unknown, however, we believe it to be South East Asian - possibly Thai, Malaysian, Cambodian, Vietnamese, Filipino, or Indonesian.
"It is unknown at this stage if any of the men are local so we are also making inquiries outside the Gwent area.
"We don't know if the men who carried him into hospital are responsible, know what happened, are acquaintances or friends but someone took the trouble to take him there and we would appeal for them to come forward.

Det Supt Ronayne added: "There is no indication that he was shot or stabbed but he did have some severe injuries which resulted in his death." The two men were in their 30s, the first had short dark balding hair and was wearing a yellow mustard jumper with thin dark horizontal stripes.
He said that the two men who brought him in spoke briefly to a member of staff in English, asking where they should take him. The second wore a fading blue or green baseball cap with a badge with a three lion's crest, a white long sleeve t-shirt with a red stripe down the shoulder and red piping around the neck.
The man was brought in near the start of the hospital's visiting period and police have appealed for witness. A post mortem examination is being conducted this afternoon and detectives are examining CCTV footage of the area.

The second man was wearing a fading blue or green baseball cap with a badge similar to the England three lion's crest above the peak. He wore a white long sleeve t-shirt with a red stripe down the shoulder and red piping around the neck. Both men were wearing dark trousers.
The victim was between 25-35 years old. He had short dark hair with a faded red (possibly henna) dye tinge at the ends.
He was wearing fawn combat trousers, a charcoal grey zip-up jacket, a khaki coloured canvas jacket and black, red and white Adidas 'Blades' studless football boots.
The victim also had a packet of Benson and Hedges cigarettes, which may have been a counterfeit brand.
A post mortem examination is being conducted this afternoon and detectives are looking at CCTV footage of the area.
