A man who opened Northern Ireland's first lapdancing club has been jailed for internet sex grooming.

Jerome Brennan, 49, originally from Manorcunningham, Donegal, posed as the female head of a modelling agency to gain the trust of a 15-year-old girl.

She met him in a car park in Middlesborough, but ran off after he offered her a job as an exotic dancer.

Brennan was jailed for one year at Teeside Crown Court and put on the sex offenders' register for 10 years.

He was also banned from unsupervised contact with children for seven years.

The court was told Brennan, who gave his address as Thorpe Road in Peterlee, County Durham, denied any involvement but his mobile phone showed he had been in contact with the teenager.

Brennan opened the Movie Star cafe in Belfast's Botanic Avenue, but it closed in 2003 owing £300,000.
