A surfer is celebrating a double honour - being appointed an MBE on his wedding day.

Chris Hines, from Cornwall, has been included in the Queen's Birthday Honours list for services to the environment.

The 46-year-old said he was delighted and thought he was probably the first surfer to receive an honour.

He ran the environmental campaigning organisation Surfers Against Sewage from 1990 until 2000.

He said: "I was quite shocked. I feel very humble really because there are a lot of excellent people in the Cornish fishing industry and unsung heroes."
