Police have spoken to hundreds of people who live in an area where a man was shot dead and two more men stabbed.

Thirty West Midlands officers patrolled the Newtown area of Birmingham one week after Meshack Bernard-Brown was killed.

Earlier the same day two Asian men were stabbed in nearby streets and police believe the attacks could be linked.

Det Supt Mike Treble, who is leading the investigation, said the exercise had "led to two or three good lines of inquiry with potential witnesses".

'Worthwhile' operation

On Monday night officers spoke to about 260 people and 100 questionnaires were completed by those in the area at the time of the attacks.

"The operation was worthwhile both from an investigative viewpoint and to reassure the public that we are doing all we can to progress this inquiry," Det Supt Treble said.

He said people should not be scared to get in touch with police.

"We are still urging anyone with information to come forward and speak to us," he said.

"If you have any concerns and are fearful to speak up, tell someone else who can speak up on your behalf."
