As people scrambled to understand what they were seeing late on Sunday, many social media users were convinced an alien invasion was imminent. Some social media users were even apparently convinced an alien invasion was imminent.
Some even had enough spare time to make a video compilation of the sighting. Popular UFO hunters ‘Secure Stream’ posted footage on YouTube and, according to the group, there was mass panic in Turkey. Many people, however, saw the funny side of things. Turkish MP Aykut Erdoğdu even referenced the sighting in a tweet, saying: “we might all be losing it.” However, all was indeed not as it appeared, and imagery used in the video had initially been posted by Turkish social media user, or users, 'Goygoyrail' as a hoax.
Doubtful News writes that some of the images distributed in the hoax date back to previously debunked UFO 'sightings' in Italy and Chile.
