Lebanese soldier killed in blast 'Bomber' killed by Lebanon troops
(about 5 hours later)
An explosion has killed a soldier near the north Lebanese city of Tripoli. A suspected suicide bomber has been shot dead by troops near Lebanon's largest Palestinian refugee camp.
The blast, thought to have occurred at an army intelligence post, happened at dawn in the town of Abdeh. The man, carrying a grenade and thought to be wearing an explosive belt, had approached an army checkpoint just outside the southern city of Sidon.
Troops sealed off the area and an investigation into the cause of the explosion has been launched. Reports said an explosive charge caused it. Troops at the position outside the Ain el-Hilweh camp opened fire and killed the man instantly, the army said.
The incident came as politicians in Beirut were due to resume talks on the formation of a new government, after a peace deal earlier this month. The incident came hours after an explosion killed a soldier near a refugee camp in the country's north.
The explosion occurred at an army intelligence post near the Nahr El-Barad refugee camp outside Tripoli.
The camp saw three months of bloody street battles last year between Islamic militants and the Lebanese army, in fighting that killed hundreds of people before troops brought the situation under control.

The town where the explosion occurred is near the Nahr El-Barad Palestinian refugee camp where fighting broke out a year ago between Islamic militants and the Lebanese army. Under the deal, the Western-backed parliamentary majority will have more than half of the seats in the new cabinet, under Prime Minister-designate Fouad Siniora.
Hundreds died before the army crushed the rebellion three months later. But the Shia militant group Hezbollah and other allies of Syria and Iran will have the power of veto over key decisions.
