A youth arrested over the gun death of a teenager in London is due to be questioned by detectives.

The 16-year-old boy has been detained in connection with the murder of Sharmaarke Hassan, 17, who died in hospital after he was shot in the head.

Sharmaarke, from Camden, who had drug convictions, was found in Gilbeys Yard, Camden, on Saturday. He died from his injuries on Wednesday night.

He was the 15th teenager to be killed in London since the start of the year.

Police believe he was a member of the Money Squad, one of a number of Somali gangs in the area, but have said they are keeping an open mind about the motive for the killing.

Watch theft

Following his death, the Crown Prosecution Service confirmed Sharmaarke was found guilty last month of possessing and attempting to supply cannabis, and given a community punishment.

The CPS said Sharmaarke also had convictions for breaching the terms of an Anti-Social Behaviour Order (Asbo) banning alleged gang members from Camden, and for stealing a £2,000 Cartier watch.

The Asbo was imposed on 2 November and banned the teenager from Buck Street in Camden, less than half a mile from where he was shot.

Sharmaarke broke the Asbo the day after receiving it.

A post-mortem examination gave the cause of his death as a gunshot wound to the head.
