Version 0 of 1.

The prospect of another government climb down is considered by many papers - and actively called for by others.

The Times says car and fuel tax rises are likely to be scrapped, as ministers are "driven to a U-turn".

A similar message is in the Financial Times which pictures some of the lorries in the latest fuel protests.

The Daily Star is one of many papers to feature a young lorry driver, Helena Hyde, waving a placard, describing the taxes as "Highway Robbery".

Fuelling fury

The Daily Telegraph highlights the fact 18m drivers will be hit by above-inflation road tax increases.

It calculates the government has taken over a £1bn in fuel taxes since the budget. The Daily Express says this is "a billion reasons to slash fuel tax".

The Guardian reports many hauliers fear they are "nearing the end of the road".

But the Independent's front page gives a message from environmentalists urging the prime minister to stand firm: "Don't be yellow, Gordon. Be Green."

'Big Name Hunter'

Several of the papers have paid their tributes to the Oscar-winning film-maker Sydney Pollack, who died of cancer on Monday night.

The Independent notes that as a director he was revered by stars - quoting George Clooney as saying he made the world a little better.

The Mirror calls Pollack a "Big Name Hunter" - reflecting the fact that he never made a film without a star.

The Times says his films shone through with his grace, passion and humanity.

'Steptoe's Gold'

A man from near Taunton in Somerset will be grateful that he did not throw away something given to him by his rag-and-bone-man grandfather.

The object has turned out to be 2,500-year-old gold cup, which has spent 60 years under a bed, but could now fetch a £100,000 at auction.

John Webber tells the Sun how exciting it has been to find out what it was.

"Steptoe's Gold" the Daily Mail calls the vessel, which features two faces, looking in opposite directions.
