Pop duo The Ting Tings have gone to the top of the album chart with their debut release We Started Nothing.

The duo - Katie White and Jules de Martino - replaced Neil Diamond's Home Before Dark at number one.

Singer-songwriter Beth Rowley's Little Dreamer entered at number six, while a group of Austrian monks saw their album of Gregorian chant enter at nine.

But The Ting Tings lost number one in the singles chart to Rihanna's Take A Bow, which rose one place.

The group were formed in Manchester last year out of White and de Martino's previous band, Dear Eskiimo. White also had another stab at pop stardom in short-lived girl group TKO.

They came third in the BBC's Sound of 2008 poll in January, and last week went to number one with the single That's Not My Name.

The Cistercian Monks of Stift Heiligenkreuz's appearance in the mainstream album chart - they are also number one in the classical chart - comes after they won a record company's talent search to find the best practitioners of Gregorian chant.

The monks said the income they receive from the album will be used to fund the education of other monks in Vietnam.

As well as Home Before Dark at number two, Neil Diamond's Best Of collection returns to the top ten, at number eight.

A further new entrant in the album chart is former Simply Red frontman Mick Hucknall, whose Tribute to Bobby is new at number 18.
